Happy Hours

I’m embarrassed to admit that I pretty much spent the entire day indoors today. It was beautiful outside, but for some reason I got stuck in a rut.

It wasn’t all counterproductive as I was mostly spending time filling out applications and emailing schools to inquire about open positions for the fall.

Lunch was simple- some leftover butternut squash lasagna and a sliced granny smith apple.

By the time Joe came home, I was kind of grouchy. I desperately needed a dose of Vitamin D. And some beer…

We grabbed some snacks and beer and headed out to the deck

Look at that sky!

IMG_5348

WOW. I am in desperate need of a tan. OMG.

IMG_5350

After our beers and a little conversation (mostly me whining about jobs and how I miss running. I’m such a fun wife) we started on dinner.

I prepared some oven fries

IMG_5352

IMG_5356

And we cut veggies for steak shish-kebabs

IMG_5354

And soaked corn for grilling

IMG_5355

Joe took care of the grilling- and before I knew it, dinner was ready!

IMG_5367

Except for my fries…woops! Bad timing, they are still in the oven.

Going to go check on those slow cooking suckers right now and then enjoy some dinner on this beautiful Friday night.

This weekend I’m going to be having lunch with a friend, doing some things around the house, getting some exercise, and attending a Christening.

What are you up to?

Cabin Fever

As you guys know from Joe’s guest post, we were headed to a weekend away in the Poconos with friends for the past few days.

Sarah and Dan (hi guys!) were nice enough to host 12 of us at Dan’s parent’s cabin. They did an awesome job of planning the weekend and we all had a blast.

Friday Night:

We all arrived in the early evening and relaxed with some drinks and a game of LCR. Have you ever played this? It’s a really fun dice game that is great for large groups.

IMG_5051

Saturday Morning:

We all slept in on Saturday morning and woke up to the beautiful views of the mountains. I love the quiet calm feeling of the cabin’s location.

IMG_5057

IMG_5058

Breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and juice were consumed.

IMG_5055

A little while later the guys headed to the slopes for some boarding and skiing on icy terrain. A few of us girls headed out for some exercise.

My friend Sue and I ran 4 miles and I kept going for another 2.5 after that. It was cold out, but I was feeling good and the scenery was beautiful.

Saturday Night:

Saturday night was the highlight of the trip for me. Sarah and Dan planned an awesome murder mystery game for all of us to play. It was called “Murder in the Snow” and we all played different characters.

I was a German speed skater with a really bad attitude.

IMG_5062

Halfway through the game though, the power went out! We all thought it was part of the game, but it wasn’t. The rest of the game was played by candlelight, which was actually kind of fun.

IMG_5067

The party raged on until about 4:30am..I lasted until around 3:30.

IMG_5082

IMG_5078

Needless to say, yesterday was spent getting some rest, and using all of my effort to get some schoolwork done.

I can’t believe the weekend is over already! Back to school tomorrow!

How did you spend the long weekend?

Have you ever done a murder mystery?

Miami Trip Recap

Wow, Monday’s really do have a whole different feel when you’ve been on vacation!

(not a good feel)

Although I did already get blasted back to reality when we got into our car at the airport and the battery was dead. 2 hours later, thanks to triple A we got home.

Otherwise, I had a great time in Miami this past weekend. The weather was nice, the wedding was amazing, and it was great catching up with friends.

Here are some pictures from the weekend

IMG_3594

I’m happy to also say that I did manage to get in a 4 mile run on the boardwalk on Friday.  So I felt pretty good about that.

I didn’t take any pictures of food- but mostly my diet included

-fried stuff

-appetizers

-granola bars

-sun chips

-beer

-coffee

-candy

It was a rather unhealthy few days. I was paying the price for it on Saturday when I woke up with extremely swollen feet and ankles.

IMG_3608

Can you tell which one is mine? EWWWW

They look much better today. Phew.

Ok, off to do LOTS of schoolwork!

Lucky for me, I don’t have class on Fridays. So while I should be catching up on work, I usually just run errands like a maniac.

Want to maniac-it-out with me?

First stop:

Gas station. Got to fuel up Rhonda the Honda.

Second stop:

Return the husband’s nice birthday scotch for a different nice scotch. I love scotch…

IMG_3014

image

Third Stop:

Library for school stuff. I check out a lot of children’s books for my school projects, so I needed to return and get some new stuff. Have you been to the library lately? It is such a great alternative to buying books and magazines.

IMG_3022

Fourth Stop:

Old Navy!

I had a rewards card and a 40% off coupon. Got new pants and a shirt for $17

IMG_3017

Fifth Stop:

ROSS. (think lots of random crap. like TJ Maxx without any of the glitz). Needed to exchange some shorts I bought Joe.

Sixth Stop:

CVS. Gotta get some stuff to protect my blisters for the race tomorrow.

IMG_3018

Seventh Stop: (YOU TIRED YET???)

Pier one! I had a gift card and wanted to pick up a delicious sounding Pumpkin Caramel candle that Tina mentioned on her blog as well as some new hand soap for the bathroom.

IMG_3015

IMG_3016

Golden apple orchard scented. Mmmm

Eighth Stop: HOME!

Time to pull out a few Halloween decorations. I’m too cheap to buy a pumpkin for outside this year. Plus if I’m buying squash these days, I’m going to eat it, not decorate with it.IMG_3007

Glass pumpkins for the coffee table

IMG_3013

Green witch candle for somewhere else (WOW-THE DUST ON MY TABLE IS EMBARASSING!)

Then it was time to EAT!

IMG_3019

For some odd reason there were two REALLY random wedges of pizza leftover, so I heated them up alongside a spinach/arugula salad with pear, goat cheese, butternut squash and balsamic vinegar and oil.

Now I’m off to DUST my coffee table and light that pumpkin candle.

Have a great afternoon!!

What errands do you have on your list?

How are you decorating for Halloween/Fall this year?

Random Tips you need to know

1. FLOSS.

IMG_2787

OMG PLEASE FLOSS. Because by the time you are here:

IMG_2785

It’s too late.

2. Buy wrapping paper that is colorful and fun but not holiday or gender specific. You can use it for lots of things and save yourself some cash.

IMG_2799

3. Repurpose boxes for other things, like presents. But make sure you don’t get someone’s hopes up.

IMG_2797

4. Booze (and fancy booze) makes a great gift. It doesn’t go bad, and it might be something that person wouldn’t buy for themselves. It is also an easy re-gift if they don’t like it. However, it is hard to wrap. IMG_2801

What on earth is that???

IMG_2805

5. When you randomly win or receive a free gift card from a store that someone else really loves, hold on to it (this is hard) and surprise them with it. It’s an extra bonus gift that costs no money

IMG_2803

Afterwards, make sure to write a letter to your kindergarten teacher and tell her that you really did learn how to share.

6. Even when a special someone tells you not to make a big deal out of their birthday, it doesn’t mean you can’t surprise them with one of their favorite treats.

IMG_2809

We’ll talk more about this recipe later this evening….

Also- I just joined Twitter. NO IDEA what I’m doing yet, but you can follow me @FoodinRL.

Red or Black??

Sorry there were no food posts today. Most of it you’ve already seen since I’ve been eating a lot of the same stuff all week.

Just one new tidbit though:

SQUASH

IMG_2637

PLUS

IMG_2598

= JOY in my mouth!!

Anyhow, I’m off to a bachelorette party in Atlantic City. Hopefully while you are reading this, I’m winning the big bucks at the slot machines.

I heard Kitty Glitter hits big. Must be the "cuteness factor". I mean when you play at a machine like this, you’re a winner either way! Cats are the gift that keep on giving.

Kitty Glitter

I’ll  also be doing some of this (hi mom!)

IMG_1819

But probably with some sort of obscene straw.

Have a good night and I’ll see you in the morning afternoon.
