And we’re still not out of the woods yet.
I still get up for 1am and 4am feedings.
I still sometimes don’t remember the 1am feeding and freak out at the 4am feeding that the baby just slept for a million hours.
I’m less afraid of my breast pump. Actually not afraid at all anymore and seeing as the key to my freedom.
I was actually able to clean, grocery shop, make dinner and get an eyebrow wax over the course of the past week. Taking advantage of help when you get it, and making getting out of the house a priority has been of the utmost importance.
I had my first beer, and my first date night with Joe.
Even at home with no additional help, Joe and I have actually eaten dinner together the past couple of nights. I owe that to our newest investment:
The Fisher Price Snugabunny Swing![]()
It swings sideways like a cradle and plays sounds, and she just LOVES it. She can’t possibly love it as much as I do. It honestly feels like cheating after weeks of back breaking manual swinging and rocking and walking all around the house. My friend Diana allowed us to try hers first and it worked like a dream- it was great to get to test drive it before shelling out $160. I can’t even tell you how many times someone says "You need (insert baby product here)" and I buy it and Olivia hates it. (Note: the snugabunny vibrating bouncy chair in the next photo is an example of this. Don’t let her comfy face fool you)
And also I’ve allowed Olivia to start taking a pacifier now that I’m less nervous about nipple confusion. She uses the MAM newborn.
There’s a lot more that I want to update you on, but Olivia is waking up and duty calls.
Till next time!
she is beautiful!! its worth it all
Thanks hun! It sure is worth it!
So funny…we have the exact same swing and chair and at first my little boy HATED BOTH OF THEM with a passion. He wanted to be held by Mommy, Daddy, or Grammy at that was it! My advice? Keep trying things. It’s great Olivia likes the swing. In a few weeks, she may like the chair as well. Just keep trying things she hates right now. I think once babies get a little older their preferences change. Good luck, mama! You’re doing a great job. She looks just perfect.
It is true, I keep trying stuff out just to see. Her playmat is a good example of that. It gets more and more interesting by the day!
She is such a cutie!! My girls loved our swing too! It was a god-send on so many occasions!
I know seriously, I love this thing!
All four of my kids LOVED the swing. I could not live without it. (In fact, we bought that exact swing before our current baby, because I was tired of burning through batteries. The plug-in feature rocks my socks.)
And I have yet to have a baby that liked a bouncy seat, whether it vibrated or not.
However, I have yet to have a baby even TAKE a pacifier. So when they weren’t in the swing, they were attached to my chest. You are lucky in that respect!
Thank goodness for the plug in option! We had an old swing that my sister gave us that was battery powered and it ran out after about 3 uses! $$$$
She is adorable!! I love the idea of trying something out at a friend’s place before buying a model that doesn’t work and then lugging it back to the store to return it.
Thank you! It was a good idea to try it out, I was so thankful for my friend who let me do that. Otherwise I don’t know if we would have shelled out the money (and it’s been our most worthwhile purchase so far!)
That swing is too cute-I love it. I think when I choose to have children (not for a long time!) I’m going to look at something like that (I’m sure there will be plenty of new things too haha).
It is a cute swing, I bet it will be totally outdated by the time you have kids- LOL. Maybe they will find a way to make it not so enormous (it’s HUGE)
Glad things are starting to fall into place for you! We have that same swing and Cameryn is just starting to use it, but she needs to be sleeping before we put her in it.
Also, I can relate to you not remembering 1-2am feedings. I always wake up wondering if I fed her or I am thinking of the night before!
I’ve been using an app in my iphone called Eat Sleep. It’s free and is easy to use so I can record her feedings. Without it, I’d be lost! My memory is shot.
she is absolutely adorable! (i know I say this everytime you have a post- BUT ITS TRUE! haha)
Anyway Im glad that things are going smoothly for you and you are getting out of the house and having some time for yourself and w/ joe!
Thanks so much!
Things are definetly getting smoother- it’s by no means perfect and I do kind of feel guilty relying on the swing so much, but I guess that a soothed baby=happy baby = happy mom= happy family, right?!
Thanks for sharing the honest truth with your readers! You’re right, there are blogs out there of recent moms who make it seem like life with a newborn is all peaches and butterflies! Glad things are slowly falling into place. And 20+ pounds lost is awesome – you rock!!
Thanks Marisa! It’s not to say that there aren’t moments that are completely peaches and butterflies, but it’s accompanied by some not so fun stuff too!
She’s so beautiful!
Thank you!
We should have traded – mine loves the vibration of the bouncer but could live without the swing. I’m hoping he’ll learn to love it, my daughter did. She would sleep FOREVER in it, it was like a miracle machine.
I’m so glad you were able to get out of the house! That really does make things feel so much ‘normal’.
Cutest baby ever.
Thanks Mindy!
2 feedings a night is not bad for her age — actually, it’s great compared to where we were at that stage
Isn’t the pacifier like magic? It made life so much easier for us, especially when he gets fussy in public.
Yes I feel lucky that she is such a good sleeper! 3.5 to 4 hour stretches at night.
What a cutie! Enjoy her while she is small Jamie
The swing was the best invention ever for each of my kids, they loved it and I loved being able to get things done while they were swinging away
